Before I Borrow is an educational tool that helps you review your financial profile before applying for a personal loan, auto loan, or HELOC. It does not make lending decisions, guarantee approval, or have access to any individual lender's underwriting guidelines. The results are estimates based only on what you enter, intended to help you prepare for a conversation with a lender \u2014 not a substitute for advice from a lender, attorney, or financial advisor.
When you use the readiness quiz, we collect the answers you provide, which may include your loan type, estimated credit score range, income, housing payment, other debt payments, employment and residence length, credit card balances and limits, loan amount, late payment history, collections status, and bankruptcy history.
If you choose to save your report, we additionally collect your first name, email address, phone number (if provided), ZIP code (if provided), and what the loan is for (if provided).
We also use Google Analytics to understand overall site usage (such as which questions people complete or where they leave the quiz). This is aggregate usage data and is not tied to your name or contact information.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with lenders, advertisers, or other third parties for marketing purposes.
Submitted report data is stored in a private Google Sheet and processed using Google Apps Script and Gmail to send the emails described above. We take reasonable care to keep this information private, but no online system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security of information you submit.
This site uses Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to measure how the site is used, including which pages and quiz questions people view and where they leave the flow. Clarity may also use anonymized session recordings and heatmaps to understand how the site is used; by default it does not record the actual text typed into form fields. These tools may use cookies or similar technology. You can use browser settings or extensions to limit or block this if you prefer.
This site is intended for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
